Invitation for U.S. - Russia Forum in Washington

Dear Colleagues,

>This is the update to the World Russia Forum to be held April 27-28, 2009, in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C.

The expectations regarding the U.S. – Russia relations after the first face-to-face meeting between Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev and U.S. President Barack Obama are running high. However, the issues facing both countries are so daunting and the accumulated mutual mistrust is so overwhelming that both sides have to quickly follow up with some concrete actions to build a positive momentum and achieve dramatic breakthroughs in this troubled relationship.

We are pleased to let you know that as you can see on www.russiahouse.org/wrf we have assembled an outstanding group of leading American and Russian experts, including top government officials, members of Congress and Duma, businessmen, and scholars who will present at the Forum an impressive agenda for moving from confrontation to the strategic partnership and alliance between our two great nations.

By participating in this important event you can directly interact with these experts and contribute to this process by bringing your own ideas, specific proposals, and participation in the discussions.

Among the confirmed speakers (in alphabetical order) are such well known personalities as Anatoly Aksakov, Deputy Chairman of the Banking and Finance Committee of the Russian State Duma; Undersecretary of State William Burns, who was also U.S. Ambassador to Moscow; U.S. Senator from South Carolina Jim DeMint; Marshall Goldman of Harvard University; His Excellency Sergei Kislyak, Russian Ambassador to Washington; Andrew Kuchins of the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Robert Legvold of Columbia University and American Academy of Arts and Sciences; Robert McFarlane, National Security Advisor to President Reagan; Wayne Merry, former senior State Department and Pentagon Official; Andranik Migranyan of the Institute of Democracy and Cooperation in New York; Thomas Pickering, former Undersecretary of State and U.S. Ambassador to Moscow; Sergei Rogov – Director of Institute of USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Sergei Tsekov, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and many others.
