We are happy to invite you to take part in XVIII international symposium “The Integration of Archeological and Ethnographical Studies”
held in Kazan, 6-8 October 2010
The symposium commemorates the 80th anniversaries of P.I. Pouchkov and A.K. Khalikov
The SIGs of the symposium are
· Ethnoarcheological studies: theory, sources, methods
· Historiographical aspects of the interaction of archeology and ethnography
· Implications of research works in the field of interaction of archeology and ethnography
· The interconnections between archeology, ethnography, arts and science
The symposium includes the seminar “Problems of study and reconstruction of traditional cultures’ dress” The seminar will cover the following issues:
· Theoretical aspects of the modern paleo- and ethnostudies of the dress (systematization, ethnocultural parallels in the dress of traditional cultures, borrowing mechanism, the regional-ethnical ratio, “fashions” and continuity, dress-making skills, originality of design, linguistic aspects)
· Symbols and functions of traditional communities’ dress (the perception of the body, colour, symmetry, rituals, gender, social stratification)
· The technique of dress reconstruction (also visual) and the description of field studies
· The technique of studying items of clothing made of organic materials
· The technique the studying accessories made of non-organic materials
· Traditional dress on the epoch of globalization (its perception in elite and mass culture, in museums)
Master-classes in cloth preservation in field-trip conditions, restoring the materials, gold embroidery, lace-making and other are planned.
We invite archeologists, ethnographers, restorers, art researchers, linguists and museologists to take part in the seminar.
The application deadline is 10 May 2010. In the application one should mention the name of the report and personal information of the participant (name, place of work, position, degree, work and home address, contact phone and e-mail). Up to 15 June 2010 texts of the articles for the symposium collected works are to be sent to the organizing committee.

On the symposium’s closure and the collected works being published the organizing committee is planning to post the reports on the site of Ethnography and Museum Studies Department of Omsk State University (http://ethnography.omskreg.ru) and that of the History Institute n.a. Sh. Margani, Science Academy of the Republic of Tatarstan (http://www.tataroved.ru).
