I am delighted to be able to greet Gennady Bordiugov on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Gena is great colleague and a wonderful friend whom I've known now for almost three decades. He is an important and prolific scholar, whose seminal work on Soviet history and Soviet foreign policy has set a high standard for the rest of us. He has also devoted an enormous amount of time and energy helping to develop young talent in the historical profession in Russia. His successful founding of and efforts with "Airo" publishing have been of great benefit to historians of Russia all over the world. By encouraging the work of diverse Russian scholars and translating the work of foreign historians, Gena has built on the best traditions of Russian historiography over the past 150 years. Historians only get better with age. So, we can expect even more fine works and publishing accomplishments from one of Russia's most distinguished scholars! Sto lat!
